The Birth of HYDROTHON

On September 8th 2013, the inaugural HYDROTHON® was held at Cronulla Beach. A small field of pioneers took up the challenge for what was a pilot event.
HYDROTHON Cronulla Beach attracted competitors from Newcastle, Terrigal, Byron Bay, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast with many surf lifesavers using the event as a warm up to the Coolangatta Gold.
Eventual winners for the men’s division was local surf lifesaver Hayden Allum and for the women, Katherine Condor. Other noted competitors included Mackenzie Hynard, Brent McKinnon, Aiden McColmn and Mark “Simmo” Simpson. “It was an excellent format that I’d definitely race again” said Hayden Allum.
